Alyssa Mautz announced her retirement from the NWSL on Tuesday, saying it was time to move on. The Chicago Red Stars player in the midfield had played for them since 2003. On Wednesday, she announced her resignation. The move is expected to create a void in the league, which has struggled with transfer activity in recent seasons. Alyssa Mautz was league's top scorer with 16 goals and 8 assists during her 10-year career.
