In a match against the Portland Thorns, the Courage's Jessica McDonald scored two goals. Lynn Williams placed the ball high into box. Debinha then one-touched it inside for McDonald's who sent the ball to the left side. This is McDonald's 50th career goal. The Courage won the league title and is now on the verge to make it long-distance playoff runs.
Trinity Rodman wins Thorns
Trinity Rodman, who scored three goals in three of the previous matches, has been the center of the Thorns offense. She has been an integral part of the U.S. national team system for years and helped her country win the CONCACAF under-20 championship last March. Rodman was an outstanding player on the night. He created three opportunities. She was integral to the team's playmaking. She excelled on the defensive side of the ball with nine recoveries and an interception.
Wave FC's Kailen Shiridan is a career penalty saver with seven
Kailen Sheridan, Wave FC goalkeeper, saves a penalty for the seventh time in her career. Sheridan stopped three shots, and saved two more in her last match against San Diego. On Sunday, the Wave lost 2-1 against the Kansas City Current. Amirah Ali scored Wave's first goal in 88 minutes. Makenzy Doniak assisted Ali. Kansas City was awarded the lead after 27 minutes due to CeCe Kizer's penalty kick.
Alyssa Moutz quits the league
Alyssa Mautz announced her retirement from the NWSL on Tuesday, saying it was time to move on. The Chicago Red Stars player in the midfield had played for them since 2003. On Wednesday, she announced her resignation. The move is expected to create a void in the league, which has struggled with transfer activity in recent seasons. Alyssa Mautz was league's top scorer with 16 goals and 8 assists during her 10-year career.
